Despite losing the mayoral primaries in May, former City Councilman Allan Domb hasn’t lost sight of why he decided to run for office in the first place, writes Meir Rinde for Billy Penn at WHYY.

Domb still wants to make Philadelphia a better city, and for him, the best way to do that is to think about how he wants the future to look.

With his business background prior to entering into politics, Domb hopes to deploy his $400 million-plus real estate empire to help create jobs and attract businesses.

Domb’s two biggest avenues are restaurants and retail stores.

He recently met with Stephen Starr to accelerate plans to replace the vacant space on Walnut Street that previously was the site of Barnes & Noble.

“I wanted it to send a message not just to Philadelphians, but to all our suburbanite friends, that the city’s coming back,” said Domb.

He is also a partner in the $430 million deal that will bring insurance powerhouse Chubb to Arch Street in Center City.

This deal is expected to create an additional 1,250 jobs at Chubb, which already employs roughly 2,000.
