As office dress codes undergo a transformation, the term “smart casual” has taken on a new meaning. The Wall Street Journal consulted with stylists on what is appropriate for workwear attire in 2023.

Bracelets: The Understated Statement

Bracelets have emerged as a workplace favorite, with stylists advocating for their subtle charm. Cassandra Sethi, a Los Angeles-based personal stylist who advises clients who work in tech and law, says: “When it comes to jewelry, less is more.”

Wardrobe stylist Luca Kingston echoes this sentiment, pointing to timeless silver or gold bracelets that harken back to the 1950s.

Baseball Caps: A Delicate Balance

Baseball caps, while popular in relaxed office settings, tread a fine line in corporate domains. Sethi cautions, “Day-to-day use of caps can send the wrong message.”

However, she concedes their appropriateness for casual work events, emphasizing the choice of refined materials like wool.

Mules: A Bold Choice for the Adventurous

The Wall Street Journal highlights the rise of mules as a weekend staple. Kingston’s advice for those bold enough? Opt for polished, round-toe designs and pair with high-quality cashmere socks.

In today’s fluid fashion world, the challenge for men lies in merging professionalism with evolving trends. As boundaries blur, adaptability paired with style is key.
