King of Prussia’s Petrucci’s Ice Cream Is Raising Money for Local Food Pantry
Petrucci’s Ice Cream in King of Prussia is holding a fundraiser Thursday to help stock the shelves at the Upper Merion Area Community Cupboard, writes Kim Hudson for CBS News Philadelphia.
Jenn Lyons, the board vice president for the food pantry, said it is getting harder to feed all the families in need. They have gone from serving 120 families to 150 families a week over the last year.
“The entire operation is both heartbreaking and heartwarming,” Lyons said.
Many of the families that come to pantry do not make enough money to pay for food, but they make too much to qualify for grants and government assistance.
The money Petrucci’s is donating from their fundraiser will help keep the shelves better stocked.
“That’s what we’re here for,” Petrucci’s owner Keith Schenk said. “It’s everything. We are a community business. Anytime we can help out the community, it’s a great thing.”
The fundraiser will be at the King of Prussia location of Petrucci’s. The event will give 20% of the proceeds to the pantry from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 8.
