Visiting abandoned places has become a popular activity among tourists across the country. From ghost towns to abandoned historic sites, these places are filled with eerie stories about life in earlier centuries.

In Pennsylvania, there are ten sites that Joshua Childu at The Travel considers the most historic abandoned places in the state.

Among them is Pottstown’s Fricks Locks.

Fricks Locks, a historic village in Pottstown, dates back to the 1700s. It was abandoned in the late 20^th century when a nuclear power plant was built nearby.

What remains are several of the buildings from the 1820s and the abandoned Schuylkill Canal, which used to be a commercial waterway in the 19^th century.

The village is located at 495-501 Lower Fricks Lock Rd in Pottstown. Since it is on private property, trespassing is not allowed, but The East Coventry Historical Commission does run free tours.
