As the world waits to see what happened to a lost submersible, an explorer from Bucks County discusses his time in the same contraption. Abigail Adams and Wendy Grossman Kantor wrote about the submersible for People.

Fred Hagen, an explorer from Bucks County, was once inside the now-lost Titan submersible, which was last seen in the Atlantic Ocean a few days ago.

“You’re in a titanium tube that’s about 20 feet long. … So you can’t get out unless somebody unbolts it,” he said.

“And you clearly understand and you sign off that you understand that this is a highly risky endeavor that could result in death.”

His friend Paul-Henri Nargeolet is one of the passengers who recently went missing. Nargeolet is an expert on the Titanic, and the submersible had gone down to the infamous wreck to get a closer look.

Hagen, owner of Hagen Construction in Bensalem, has been traveling the world in search of adventure for a very long time. He recently headed to Croatia in search of a series of bronze statures that were lost in the time of Ancient Rome.
