The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M – Bethlehem – will start enforcing the Fourth of July holiday weekend crackdown on traffic on Saturday, writes Dino Ciliberti for the Patch.

The Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement Education Program will end on July 4 at 11:59 PM.

This crackdown will target drivers who operate their vehicles in an aggressive manner that is dangerous to the public. These dangers include speeding, seatbelt violations, and child seat belt infractions.

Last year, Troop M investigated a total of 43 crashes during the Independence Day Holiday Traffic Enforcement Period and made 41 Driving Under the Influence arrests. Officers also issued 328 speeding citations, 29 child seat passenger violations, and 59 seat belt citations. There were 27 self-initiated criminal arrests and 1,105 other traffic citations.

In addition, troopers will pay attention to drivers who text while driving, use a handheld mobile telephone, use hearing impairment devices, use text-based communications, drive carelessly, and drive recklessly.

Meanwhile, Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Drivers and Drug Recognition Expert Troopers will specifically focus on motorists who are operating their vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
