The school district is entering the nationwide effort to take legal action against the companies.

A school district in Bucks County will be joining a nationwide effort to take legal action against the country’s top social media companies.

This week, the Centennial School District’s Board of School Directors authorized the district to enter into an Attorney-Client Fee Contract for the commencement of legal action against social media companies. The contract will see the district work with the Frantz Law Group, ALPC, Dillon McCandless King Coulter & Graham, LLP, and Levin Legal Group.

The district is joining more than 500 school districts nationally in the lawsuit against Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, and other social media companies for allegedly causing harm to students that use the platform.

“This past May, the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory about the effects that social media use has on our youth’s mental health,” said Dr. Dana T. Bedden, the district’s Superintendent.

“Given his indication that there is growing evidence that the use of social media is associated with harm to young people’s mental health, the administration requested, and the Board approved, Centennial join the lawsuit, which is intended to have social media platforms address their practices that contribute to and/or cause addiction and emotional distress to students which have negatively impacted the educational process and student learning.”
