The race is celebrating 30 years of events this weekend.

This weekend, nearly 1,000 people are expected to walk or run in two events that will celebrate Doylestown’s annual 5K race’s 30th anniversary, writes Ed Doyle for TAP Into Doylestown.

The first event, a one-mile fun run, will start at 9 AM on May 27. The more traditional 5K race will start half an hour later. Both events will commence on East State Street in front of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

A post-race party will have a DJ and feature a “foam party.”

Depending on the weather, the 5K typically brings in over 700 runners. Meanwhile, around 150 people will take part in the Fun Run.

The fastest runners complete the 5K race in around 16 minutes, according to Kris Boger, volunteer race director and president of Discover Doylestown. Average runners and walkers are usually done in 30 to 40 minutes.

While most of the racers are from the region, some will have come from as far away as Washington State.

“There’s usually a bunch of runners from Maryland and Washington, D.C., and some from Delaware and Virginia coming back home,” said Boger.
