The Bucks County company has filed a lawsuit against two pharmaceutical groups, including Pfizer.

A biopharmaceutical company in the Bucks County area is taking legal action against two major groups over their widely-lauded vaccines. John George wrote about the lawsuits in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Arbutus Biopharma, headquartered at 701 Veterans Way in Warminster, has filed a lawsuit against both Pfizer and BioNTech. The suit, filed at U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, alleges that the companies infringed on multiple patents during the creation of their Covid-19 vaccine.

The Bucks County company alleges that the two pharma giants used their patented technologies in an unlicensed manner.

“During the pandemic, there was an urgent need for LPN (lipid nanoparticle technologies) to deliver mRNA-based Covidd-19 vaccines to cells in the human body,” said William Collier, CEO of Arbutus.

“We believe that Pfizer and BioNTech could not have created and manufactured effective vaccines at such an unprecedented speed without the existing, proven and patented LPN technologies owned by Arbutus.”
