Bucks County Takes on Several Social Media Giants Over ‘Egregious Conduct’ Targeting Kids
The Bucks County Commissioners and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office announced that Bucks County has filed a lawsuit against several social media giants over their targeting of children, which resulted in a mental health crisis in the county, reports CBS Philadelphia.
The lawsuit was filed in California on Tuesday. It alleges that major social media sites intentionally created toxic content that is addictive to young people.
Among the social media sites named in the lawsuit are TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat.
“This is a fight we’re taking to the doorsteps of these companies in Silicon Valley,” said Bucks County solicitor Joe Khan.
“This is a demand for these companies to do better with respect for this egregious conduct with the respect to targeting kids, despite claims that they were not aware that kids were using their products,” he added.
Bucks County officials believe that this represents the first time a county government has filed a lawsuit of this nature against these sites.
