Gwynedd Mercy University to Host The Frances Suite
Gwynedd Mercy University is hosting The Frances Suite, a Black History Month Cultural Event.
The Frances Suite features an all-female cast in the retelling of American poet Frances Harper’s life. One hundred years prior to Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat, Harper demonstrated the same resistance on a trolley car in Philadelphia.
The concert is composed by Ruth Naomi Floyd and examines specific moments of Harper’s life, woven together into a portrait of Black womanhood and advocacy.
The Frances Suite explores how iconic moments in history can translate into transformative movements for justice. The concert brings 19th-century advocacy lessons into a 21st century context.
The event will be held on Feb. 17 from 8 PM to 9:15 PM at the Julia Ball Auditorium on GMercyU’s main campus in Gwynedd Valley, Pa. Admission is free.
