Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt stands between Bill Soloway, left, and Jim Zimmerman, a lifelong Steelers fan, before last month's game against the Eagles.

Despite loving all of his Philadelphia sports teams, a Bucks County resident is thankful to a kind Steelers fan for saving his life. Dave Uram wrote about the friendship for KYW Newsradio.

A heart transplant gave 57-year-old Eagles fan Bill Soloway of Yardley a second chance at life and as well as a friend for life in 68-year-old Steelers fan Jim Zimmerman, Sr. Zimmerman’s son, James Zimmerman Jr, passed away tragically at 38 years old in 2015. He was a retired Marine and father and an organ donor.

“He was a very good-hearted person,” said Zimmerman Sr. “He was kind and always helping people. He was always out there to help someone.”

Soloway suffered from a genetic heart defect for years and was in dire need of a heart transplant. However after receiving Zimmerman Jr’s heart his life quality improved immeasurably.

So he decided to seek out the donor’s family and let them know how much he appreciated his second chance. After he met his father, the two men became fast friends and started to go to football games together.

In October, Soloway took Zimmerman Sr. to Lincoln Financial Field when the Steelers visited the Eagles. As an extra surprise, he nominated his friend to be the Steelers Finalist for the NFL Ultimate Fan of the Year competition.
