Glenside Pub Crawl, Sidelined by Other Priorities in 2016, Returns
Chuck Dougherty’s idea for a mobile party that would travel from one Glenside watering hole to another started small. But over the outing’s ensuing 20 years, it surged in popularity and gained an official title: the Glenside Pub Crawl. Dougherty’s familial responsibilities eventually made it unsustainable. But, as reported by Ryan Genova in the Glenside Local, it’s coming back for Dec. 2022.
The pub crawl was originally little more than an informal list of stops that participants would visit, imbibe, have some fun, and move on.
Over time, however, it became a thing, gaining an official name (The Glenside Crawl), a rotating logo, a website, a Facebook page, t-shirts, giveaways, costumes (and awards for them), and barkeeps who created specialty drinks for participants.
It grew so popular that Dougherty considered expanding its reach.
“We thought about buying a bus and going all over Montgomery County as a business model, but the liability would probably be pretty steep,” he said.
The logistics eventually became too intricate for Dougherty to navigate, so six years ago, he ended the tradition.
Its return (the exact date has yet to be determined) may coincide with his daughter’s birthday, perhaps signaling that as she’s grown, his schedule has eased.
Additional rounds of information on the Glenside Pub Crawl are at the Glenside Local.
