The police chief had an active role in the infamous case.

After decades of wondering what would come of an infamous case he investigated, a Bucks County police chief’s involvement is being remembered. Dino Ciliberti wrote about the police chief for the Bensalem Patch.

Kenneth Coluzzi, the Police Chief for Lower Makefield Township, has a special connection to the infamous “Boy in the Box” case that has left investigators and Philadelphia residents puzzled for over 60 years. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, Coluzzi was one of several investigators from the Philadelphia Police Homicide unit who took another look at the case.

Now having served as a Bucks County police chief for the past 22 years, Coluzzi partook in the excavation of the body in an attempt to collect DNA in 1998.

Originally found on the morning of Feb. 26, 1957, the infamous “Boy in the Box” was recently identified. His name was Joseph Augustus Zarelli, a 4-year-old from Philadelphia.

Now that he has a name, investigators like Coluzzi can now find comfort in this monumental discovery.
