A Bucks County nonprofit organization recently worked with a Philadelphia museum to teach the history of Japanese-style design.

The Raymond Farm Center for Living Arts & Design, located at 6370 Pidcock Creek Road in New Hope, recently held a joint event with the Shofuso Japanese House and Garden that discussed the long and storied history of Japanese design in America.

Shofuso, a Philadelphia center celebrating Japanese art and culture, hosted the vent to discuss the work of several Japanese-American designers, specifically George Nakashima, an artist that lived in New Hope for many years.

His daughter, Mira Nakashima, was one of the guides for the event. She is the President and Creative Director for George Nakashima, Woodworker, an organization that celebrates her father’s work.

“Thanks to our excellent guides, John DeFazio – Executive Director of the Raymond Farm Center, Mira Nakashima – President and Creative Director for George Nakashima Woodworker, and Bill Whitaker – curator and collections manager of the Architectural Archives of the University of Pennsylvania Weitzman School of Design, for leading us on this day of learning and discovery, and to everyone who attended the tour,” Shofuso said on their social media.
