The food donations will go to those facing food insecurity this holiday season.

Longtime Bucks County philanthropists Gene and Marlene Epstein have announced that they will increase their matching donation to a Bucks County food program if a certain amount is reached. Jeff Werner wrote about the donation on the Newtown, PA Patch.

The couple said that they will increase their donation to the Bucks County Opportunity Council’s Food program to $25,000 if the community is able to raise $100,000. Donations can be made through Aug. 5 and are already past $20,500.

“No one has to look too far to see how those on a fixed incomes are sacrificing just to get by,” says Bucks County philanthropist Gene Epstein. “Too many people are food insecure. Too many people can just about afford to put food on their table. Too many people are in need, and we must do everything we can to help them.”

The Opportunity Council has served low-income families in Bucks County for more than 55 years. Through their services, they assist families by helping them to stabilize when in crisis. They also help them accumulate resources so they can have a livable wage and gain additional education and training.
