Wall Street Journal: Local Truck Owner In a Frunk Funk over New Feature
Chadds Ford resident Tom Martin has been looking forward to receiving his new Ford F-150 Lightning with a front trunk, writes Nora Eckert for the Wall Street Journal.
The vehicle boasts a 14.1-cubic-feet “frunk,” as the feature is called, with a built-in power outlet.
Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley referred to the space as “Mega Power Frunk” during the truck’s presentation and listed numerous possible uses for it, including hauling 400 pounds of concrete … or a lot of beer.
The under-the-hood trunk is a popular feature on electric vehicles that instead of a motor have a battery usually lining the vehicle’s floor. The front trunk provides drivers with more space to fill with items.
Martin plans to use this extra space for his golf clubs and power outlets for cooking equipment that he brings on ski trips.
However, the feature’s name does not sit well with him.
“The first time you hear it, it sounds like: ‘What are you talking about?’” said Martin. “Just like any other thing, you get used to it after a while.”
