Wall Street Journal: Vanguard Devises Ways to Help Remote Employees Stay Connected

In the current world of high turnover and remote work, companies like Vanguard are trying new ways to help co-workers bond and stay connected, writes Te-Ping Chen for The Wall Street Journal. 

Vanguard recently implemented a peer recognition program that allows co-workers to send each other e-cards to show their appreciation for above-and-beyond efforts. Working remotely has made it difficult for teams and employees in separate departments to acknowledge each other.

The e-cards have sentiment options to choose from, including sentiments like “Thank you,” “You crushed it,” “Happy work anniversary,” and more, according to Alexandra Gotts, a senior executive at Vanguard. 

Instead of only receiving recognition from higher-ups, this small action allows colleagues to compliment one another and create a positive atmosphere.  

Other companies have created points-based systems with redeemable perks like Amazon or Target gift cards.
