Matradee servers can even be programmed to serenade someone on a birthday.

Yet another Bucks County senior living facility is employing robotic help in its kitchen. Michele Haddon, at the Bucks County Courier Times, input the data on the “Matradee” model of self-guided food deliverers, two of which are now serving Doylestown seniors.

The Wesley Enhanced Living “hiring” of these automated table-bussers was a decision driven by COVID-19, which precipitated personnel shortages at the residence. Absent humans to cover dining-room tasks, the facility’s leadership went digital.

The two units — Rosie and Robby — show diners their seats, deliver food, and can even serenade residents with a sung version of “Happy Birthday.”

The robots are the creation of Richtech Robotics of Austin, Tx. Its technological whizzes preprogram the Matradees with visual navigation and remote sensing technologies to ensure safe passage among tables, chairs, and residents.

The automatons already have received a warm welcome among the humans they serve.

“It moves quite agilely. It could’ve been a problem, running into people, but it doesn’t,” said Phil Monahan, a Wesley resident.

Senior-living facility Juniper Village in Bensalem also recently employed a fleet of similar technology in its dining room and kitchen.

More on the use of the Matradee is at the Bucks County Courier Times.
