Downingtown Driver on Paying a Fortune at the Pump: ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’
Gas prices in the region have started to gradually decrease — around six to seven cents per gallon — but for many drivers in Chester County, the drop is too small to notice, writes Corey Davis for 6abc.
“I have to put in 91 [gallons], and it’s costing me a fortune,” said Downingtown resident Norma Gerrity. “I’m going to say almost double. Not satisfactory. Drill, baby, drill. Open those pipelines.”
Meanwhile, others have a few tricks up their sleeve to help them better deal with the high prices.
“Utilizing gas stations that use gas points definitely helps in mitigating the price,” said Phoenixville resident Steve Maisonet.
Earlier in the month, President Joe Biden ordered the release of one million oil barrels per day from the country’s backup petroleum supply. It’s a six-month attempt to control energy prices that have skyrocketed following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Biden has suggested that the move could bring prices down by anywhere from 10 to 35 cents a gallon, but he said it is hard to know for sure.
At this point, all drivers can hope for is that the prices continue to fall.
