Hatboro Police Officer’s Wife Posts Tragic Update on His Bee Sting Injuries: ‘No Chance He Will Recover’
Officer Ryan Allen suffered a bee sting last year, which led to a heart attack and then a serious brain injury on October 14, 2021, writes the 6abc Digital Staff in a new report.
Officer Allen has been on the Hatboro Police Force since 2013 and helped start Hatboro Police Department’s first police K9 program while serving on the Montgomery County Drug Task Force.
The officer’s wife, Whitney Allen states that “We have been told by his medical team there is no chance that he will recover in any meaningful way.”
35-year-old Officer Ryan Allen is in a disordered state of consciousness. “He’s out of the coma, but he’s not aware of his surroundings,” she said.
Allen posted this tragic news on Facebook on Friday, saying, “This is a very painful post to write but I know I have to be transparent as many of you have been following Ryan’s story since his medical emergency in October. We had every intention of bringing Ryan home to continue his medical care and therapies in order to further his recovery when he was discharged from Moss Rehabilitation.
“However, as we have learned throughout this horrific journey things can change dramatically in an instant, which has happened in Ryan’s case. The last couple of weeks we have been processing new information concerning Ryan and his prognosis and making impossible decisions as a family,” Whitney wrote.
“We have learned that Ryan’s anoxic brain injury is even more devastating and extensive than we even first knew or could understand. Now that it has been several months since his cardiac arrest, the swelling in his brain has subsided, and a recent MRI revealed shrinking of his brain and that crucial portions of his brain are no longer there.
“Ultimately, we have been told by his medical team there is no chance that he will recover in any meaningful way,” she posted.
After his hospitalization, the Montgomery County community rallied around the Allen family, creating a GoFundMe raising more than $110,000.
Whitney Allen has said the funds will be used for private duty nursing care during Ryan’s last weeks. “It is still uncertain if any nursing care, while Ryan is on hospice, will be covered by insurance,” she said.
“Me and our family appreciate your prayers during this time as I am still not sure how I will get through this next phase. Please pray that we have the strength for this next part and that Ryan suffers no additional trauma or pain during his transition to heaven,” Whitney Allen posted about her husband.
