Pineville Tavern Replaces Its COVID-Era, Utilitarian, Outdoor Seating with Eye-Popping ‘Garden’
Over the course of its 280-year existence, the Pineville Tavern has certainly weathered a lot. Its latest survival of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, became the springboard to its newest dining experience, The Garden. Marilyn Johnson, of Philly Grub, assembled a menu of reasons to experience it.
The Garden is a fully enclosed greenhouse that has replaced the restaurant’s COVID-era tent. The permanent structure, which can accommodate 70 seated guests, is a haven of lush foliage and aromatic flowers.
The décor includes 12-foot banana trees, giant hanging ferns, and topiary-style shrubs. The natural elements are accented by antique French doors, a stained-glass transom, and handmade chandeliers.
Renny Reynolds of Hortulus Farm Garden & Nursery designed the space. In cooler outside temps, it can be warmed for comfort; for spring and summer, the glass walls and doors are removable for alfresco dining. That flexibility equips it for year-round usage.
Construction took two years and a $300,000 investment.
