EPAM Systems Officially Supports Ukraine; Will Cease Service to Russian Clients ‘Quickly’
Newtown-based EPAM Systems Inc. has clarified what was seen internally as a “neutral” stance on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Joseph N. DiStefano, in The Philadelphia Inquirer, covered the company’s latest messaging and related actions.
The initial corporate response to Russia’s invasion came from EPAM founder and chief executive, Arkadiy Dobkin. The staff in Newtown reacted harshly to his online sentiments, believing them to be too soft on an issue that has mortally endangered colleagues and families abroad.
In a revised statement, the tech company has announced “…full support of Ukraine and calls for the immediate end to the unlawful and unconscionable attack on the people of Ukraine.”
Further, EPAM Head of Investor Relations David Straube indicated a cessation of service to Russian clients. “It will not happen overnight,” he qualified. “But it will be quickly.”
EPAM is also contributing $100 million to helping its employees and their families in Ukraine.
Further cementing the sharpened corporate stance is an update to its English-language landing page, which now displays a “We Stand with Ukraine” banner.
No company information, however, was issued regarding the safety or status of the 6,000 EPAM employees in Russia.
