Local Economy Chugs Along Healthily: Bucks County GDP Growth Among the Highest Statewide

Bucks County's economy performed well in 2021, as measured by its GDP.

Bucks County was among the places in Pa. with the highest GDP growth in 2021, according to a recently released report by SmartAsset.

The county ranked in fourth in the state, with a GDP growth of $785 million and a GDP Growth Index of 25.45 last year.

This performance is significantly above the state average of $185 million. The results also place Bucks County at No. 127 in the nation.

In 2021, the county reported business growth of 1.2 percent, which put it in No. 15 in that category. Nationwide, the county ranked at No. 1,225. The state recorded an average drop in business growth of 0.8 percent.

Meanwhile, 2.9 new building permits per 1,000 homes were issued in that same period, which puts the county under the state average of 3.2 and in the 29th place. Nationally, Bucks County ranked in No. 1,682 in this category.

The place with the highest GDP growth in the Keystone State is Allegheny County with $1,361 million, followed by Philadelphia County with $1,173 million.
