YMCA of Bucks County’s Healthy Horizons Program Blends Physical Fitness with Recovery Wellness
Healthy Horizons, a mental health program of the YMCA of Bucks County, combines the organization’s physical and nutritional guidance with that of a traditional recovery process.
Over the course of its 12-week length (the next session starts April 11 at the Doylestown, Quakertown, and Warminster branches), it provides a framework for bodily fitness to augment formalized efforts to break addictions. The holistic approach comprises goal setting and tracking, overlaid with support for exercise, nutrition, meditation, mindfulness, and movement.
Healthy Horizons has two weekly touch points: one on Zoom to address the educational and support components and the other in person, where personal trainers guide workouts.
Each participant will graduate with supportive relationships and the knowledge and tools necessary to continue his or her health and wellness journey.
Participants and their support systems (family member, friend, or sponsor) both receive a complimentary 12-week YMCA membership as the program unfolds. Once it has been completed, participants themselves can continue their fitness routines via a three-month adult membership.
Healthy Horizons is available to residents who have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder and are in the recovery process, 60 days from last use of drugs or alcohol. Other mental health diagnoses require confirmation from a healthcare provider of “in recovery” status.
