Career Corner: These Fields are Setting the Remote Work Pace

With vaccines now readily available to any who would want them, many companies are feeling that there is no longer a safety concern necessitating keeping companies remote.

However, a lot of employees have grown to prefer remote work. Fortunately, if you fall into that category, there are some fields that are embracing continuing to do things virtually.

Per the Philadelphia Business Journal, some of the fields with the best prospects for remaining remote are jobs related to finances. Using labor market data from the 2022 Talent Playbook, the article finds that remote job position postings for roles like loan processors have increased by over 800% within the last five years.

While a growing willingness to accept remote workers has been happening, it is a safe conclusion that that huge percentage increase is primarily due to the pandemic.

Other roles that have seen huge jumps include remote collections specialists (over 700%), sales support assistants (over 600%), and loan officers (also over 600%).

And those are all just the non-degree positions. For a position requiring a degree, such as a financial services representative, the increase was over 1,000%.

While the pattern is the most noticeable for positions in the financial field, other fields have seen a drastic increase in their willingness to accept remote work as well. Some of the reasons for this includes companies who have seen that productivity will not plunge if they keep workers remote.

There is also the consideration that if a company does not need to pay for offices, that is a huge cost-cutting measure.

With continued COVID variants continuing to crop up, even companies that want to return to the office are often playing it safe by at least continuing with a hybrid format. But perhaps once COVID is no longer a concern, remote workers will still have ample options at their consideration.
