The Sears location at the Willow Grove Park shopping center is closing, leaving Pennsylvania with no full-line stores of the one-time undisputed retail king, writes Daniel Urie for the Harrisburg Patriot-News.

Sears owner Transformco confirmed the closure of the store at 2500 W. Moreland Road in Abington Township and added that it has plans to redevelop the property.

The company will announce details of the redevelopment of the store at a later date.

“Building off the regional draw of the mall and our existing tenant, Primark, there is strong redevelopment potential for this site,” said Scott Carr, president of real estate for Transformco. “We intend to reinvigorate and maximize the value of the real estate to meet the needs of the Willow Grove market.”

The Transformco corporation also owns Kmart, with the last two in Pennsylvania closing last year.

“Transformco’s go-forward store strategy for Sears and Kmart is to operate a diversified portfolio consisting of a small number of larger, premier stores with a larger number of small-format stores – combined with its Shop Your Way rewards program, online marketplace and buy online, pick up in-store capabilities,” said the company.
