Pita Chip, in University City, soon to open a Yardley location.

Pita Chip has announced a 2022 expansion from its two college-area locations in Center City to a Yardley shopping center. QSR covered the market shift for the Middle Eastern quick-serve restaurant.

The Pita Chip concept — based on falafel wraps, shawarma, and hummus — proved successful enough on the Temple University campus to warrant a second site in University City.

The restaurants’ growth makes cofounders Omar Alsaadi and Mouhanad Kabbani confident enough to step into the suburbs with a third location.

The executive team was just a pair of restaurant neophytes when they started. But reliance on time-tested dishes made with home-spun recipes became their bedrock.

“I’ve always [striven] to build a menu that is reminiscent of Middle Eastern street food, while remaining progressive and modern. It pays homage to my culture, but the food is for everyone,” said Alsaadi.

“We’re excited to expand into the suburbs to bring our delicious food to more people in the Philadelphia area,” Klayman commented.

The two entrepreneurs view the Pita Chip menu as an opportunity for patrons to share the cultural diversity of their food.

“This food is intrinsic to who I am,” Alsaadi said. “One bite of falafel, and I’m transported back to Damascus, Syria, drinking in the aromas from all the wonderful street vendors’ foods.”
