The Brandywine Valley SPCA is one of the many nonprofits that have made their way to Kentucky to help with recovery efforts after deadly tornadoes left destruction in their wake, writes Maria Pulcinella for WHYY.

Immediately after seeing the devastation on Saturday, BVSPCA teamed up with ASPCA and the Kentucky Humane Society to determine how they could help.

“As soon as we saw the impact, we started planning, knowing there would be a significant need for help,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA CEO. “These are the times we all need to come together for both pets and their people.”

It was decided that BVSPCA would help empty KHS, which would enable the shelter to take in pets from Mayfield, which suffered some of the worst damage.

Last Sunday, the BVSPCA’s rescue bus was on its way to Kentucky to pick up 75 animals. The 40 dogs and 35 cats were then transported to the BVSPCA’s Animal Rescue Center in Georgetown, Del. Now, they are all available for adoption through BVSPCA locations.

And to support this rescue mission, the BVSPCA is asking the community to consider volunteering, fostering, or donating, as well as adopting.
