Career Corner: 3 Reasons Why Now Is an Ideal Time to Return to Work

Many people found themselves out of work against their volition when the pandemic was at its worst and businesses were closing. However, many others also willingly stepped away from their jobs for all kinds of reasons, such as to start a family.

But it has now become a great time for people to look for work again, regardless of their reasons for unemployment.

As stated by Forbes, a lot of elements have come together to make now a great time to resume your job search. Much of it comes back to the pandemic forcing people to prioritize better jobs, leaving many companies short-staffed.

And the only way those companies have been able to draw in new applicants is to increase their benefits and become less rigid in what candidates they are willing to consider. However, those are not the only reasons.

Companies are More Willing to Accommodate You

Prior to the pandemic, many companies expected to have access to your time whenever they needed it. Mandatory overtime and even weekend work were often the norms, making it difficult to have a personal life. However, with employers no longer being overwhelmed with applicants, they suddenly cannot discard every qualified employee who also needs the flexibility to work from home and keep a regular work schedule to care for their children.

Training for People Who Have Been Out of the Field

One thing that might make you hesitate is if you are in a field where technology advances quickly, and you worry you won’t understand how things are done anymore. More employers are cognizant of this reality and are willing to offer what is basically an internship for adults called a returnship.

Even if the company you try this out at isn’t a fit for you, it still gives you experience learning the new standards for your field.

Skills Matter as Much as Experience

Employers understand that many people will understandably have employment gaps these days. That has forced companies to examine a worker’s skillset more, which will still be there even if you have a career gap.

Highlighting what you have achieved in the past will have more weight right now even if you have not been consistently employed.

As many have said, it is a strong market for employees currently, but they may not last indefinitely. If you are looking for a ripe moment to return to work, this may be your best opportunity.
