Ryan Allen, a longtime Hatboro police officer, is in a coma after a severe reaction from a bee sting, writes Christopher Dornblaser for OFFICER.com.

Now, the community is rallying to help both the officer and his family get through these difficult times.

Allen is currently at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia. His condition is stable but critical. He has been sedated since he was hospitalized.

He was stung by a bee on October 14 at his Bucks County home.

He told his wife, Whitney, he was not feeling well before collapsing. His wife did compressions on him as she waited for an ambulance to show up.

“It’s kind of a sudden, unique event,” said Chief James Gardner.

Allen, who helped kickstart the department’s K-9 program, is considered a “fixture” in the borough along with his K-9 Louie.

The Montgomery County Hero Fund, which provides relief to first responders during times of crisis, is being used to help Allen’s family, while his fellow officers are visiting his bedside daily.

“We’re just so grateful for the support,” said his wife.
