Oxford Valley Mall Closes for Thanksgiving, Enabling Employees Some Family Time
Simon Property Group, owner of Oxford Valley Mall, will keep all of its shopping centers closed on Thanksgiving Day, write Samantha McDonald and Shoshy Ciment for Footwear News.
The company will reopen Oxford Valley Mall and its other properties to the public on Black Friday — which is expected to see large crowds return to stores across the country.
This is the second year in a row that Simon, which also owns the King of Prussia Mall and Philadelphia Premium Outlets in Limerick, has chosen to keep all of its properties closed on the fourth Thursday of November.
When the closings were originally announced last year, the company’s CEO David Simon said that Simon Property Group decided to not open its properties to allow “associates to spend the holiday with their loved ones.”
Simon, which currently holds an interest in 202 shopping centers in the United States, is one of a growing number of companies in the retail industry that are opting to close for Thanksgiving.
So far this year, REI Co-op, Walmart, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Kohl’s have also announced they will not be open on November 25.
