After leaving their country at the height of drug wars, Colombia natives Juan Carlos and Adriana Mora found success in Mora Family Dentistry in Exton, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

The pair met in dental school in 1991. After they married, they decided to move to the U.S., where Juan Carlos’s mother lived. Neither of them spoke English, but they quickly learned by listening to other people’s conversations.

They graduated from the University of Pennsylvania before passing dental school. They soon started working as dental assistants, supplementing their income with other odd jobs.

“That’s the beauty of this country,” said Juan Carlos. “If you work hard, you can make it here.”

They continued to work as dental assistants until they were able to open their own practice in Malvern in 2007. More recently, they purchased a building at Exton Commons.

They have also modernized their practice and embraced technology in their dental and periodontal work. This includes using 3-D imaging and laser technology.

The pair plan to continue working on their dreams, including buying a sailboat and retiring.
