A national resource for backyard gardeners looked at the best wine producers nationwide, absent the heavy hitter of California. Its assessment of Bucks County vineyards was very favorable, reports Brenda Ryan for LawnStarter.

The company ranked the 1,048 best U.S. wine producers — county by county. Its 18-metric scoring system looked at the following metrics:

  • Accommodations
    • Number of hotels
    • Hotel ratings
    • Number of reviews
    • Price
  • Wine Tours
    • Number of tours
    • Tour ratings
    • Number of reviews
    • Price
  • Producers and Origins
    • Number of producers
    • Number of American Viticultural Areas (AVAs): designated wine grape-growing regions in the U.S.
  • Annual Awards
    • Total
    • Gold
    • Silver
    • Bronze

Bucks County landed at No. 44 on a list of more than 1,200.

The only other Pa. county to make the ranking was Berks, at No. 19.
