Pronouns as a New LinkedIn Feature & LGBTQ in the Veteran Space

Pronouns on LinkedIn

Although there are several updates on LinkedIn, you can now add your pronouns as a new LinkedIn feature on your profile. Let’s also learn what they mean.

There are three standard choices that LinkedIn offers, plus the choice of custom pronouns. You can add she/her, he/him, they/them, or you can customize as I did. I chose she/her/hers.

As you can see in the feature image on the left, the words are much larger than on the right. That is because, about a year ago, I added them (on the left) manually to my profile.

Now, LinkedIn offers pronouns as a standard feature on a profile, but they are smaller and less pronounced, but there, nonetheless.

I did not understand why or how people used pronouns before the pandemic and then decided to educate myself as a straight cisgender ally.

Everyone can choose how they want to identify themselves – female, male, both, or neither as their gender expression.

I wrote an article almost a year ago, titled LinkedIn Pride – What Are Your Pronouns?, and this article notes the 58 gender options listed on Facebook.

Read this article to also learn how June became LGBT Pride month. You will now know why you will start to see the Pride overlays on company logos after Memorial Day.

So how does all this tie into veterans?

As a marketing committee and nonprofit member of the Delaware Valley Veterans Consortium, I cannot go without first acknowledging the importance of Memorial Day, which serves to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms. It is a solemn day of remembrance, so do not wish someone a Happy Memorial Day, as it is anything but happy.

As in every faction of life, conversations occur about diversity, equity, and inclusion, including the military. Should you wish to learn more from a discussion with subject matter experts, register on the Eventbrite link for LGBTQ Issues in the Veteran Space on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, from 3-4:30 PM EST.

Also, if any veterans are rejoining civilian life, save your lunchtime on June 24th for Returning Veterans: Transitioning into the Workforce with Monarch Staffing.

Whether you are a veteran or civilian, you may now include your pronouns on your LinkedIn profile if you so desire.
