The Leapfrog Group’s hospital safety grades, an employee-driven healthcare rating system, has awarded top marks to two Bucks County hospitals, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer. 

Leapfrog, a Washington, D.C., nonprofit watchdog organization, collects data to ensure better value for the $700-plus billion that employees spend each year on healthcare. In its advocacy role, it collects, analyzes, and disseminates data to improve consumers’ value-based purchasing and decision-making. 

Leapfrog compiles the grades twice a year using Medicare data and other sources. Their purpose is to encourage hospitals to adopt best practices that reduce medical mistakes and adverse events such as in-hospital infections. 

The latest rating awarded an A grade to both St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne. 

Meanwhile, Grand View Hospital in Sellersville and Jefferson Bucks Hospital in Langhorne both received a B. 

Finally, Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol was the lowest-graded Bucks County hospital with a C. 

No Bucks County or Philadelphia-region hospital received the bottom mark of an F.
