November 2020 Work on Route 1 in Bensalem

PennDOT’s large-scale project to overhaul Route 1 moved into its second phase this week, writes Tom Sofield for LevittownNow

The state transportation department confirms that the second phase of the project will begin work between the Neshaminy Interchange in Bensalem and just past the Penndel/Business Route 1 (Lincoln Highway) Interchange in Middletown Township. Construction barriers are already appearing on the north- and southbound shoulders.

The initial construction for this segment of the project involves clearing operations and installation of environmental safety barriers before starting large-scale excavation of the northbound and southbound embankments.

The entire refurb started in 2018. Phases one and two are expected to end by mid-2026. A third round has been discussed but not settled.
