Local Teen Makes Wooden American Flags to Support First Responders
Matt Menditto, an eighteen-year-old entrepreneur from Northampton Township, is using his handcrafting skills to create wooden American flags that he is now donating to first responders in his community, writes Matteo Iadonisi for the 6abc.
Menditto began crafting the flags last year and has been selling them through his business, “Summit Flags.” But recently, he has decided to gift some of the flags to police departments around Bucks County.
He was inspired to do so by his father, Mike, who is a volunteer firefighter in Northampton Township.
People who do not have first responders in their family “don’t realize how much they do for us on a day-to-day basis,” said the teen.
Before COVID-19 hit, Menditto was producing 20 flags per day. But after the pandemic began, his sales fell flat. However instead of halting production, he decided to use the extra time he had after being sent home for the remainder of his senior year at Council Rock High School South to make more flags and donate them.
Of course Northampton Police Department was one of the recipients.
“We all appreciate the time and energy he put into making the flags,” said Chief Steven LeCompte.
