A Philadelphia original is doubling down on its hometown. Urban Outfitters Inc. is set to bring more than 1,000 new jobs to the region over the next seven years, with hundreds of them rooted in a fast-growing Bucks County operation, writes Ariana Perez-Castells for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The parent company behind Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, and Nuuly announced plans to add at least 450 positions at its Navy Yard headquarters in Philadelphia. Another 600 jobs are slated for a brand-new Bucks County facility dedicated to Nuuly, the company’s booming clothing rental subscription service, with the distribution center expected to open by early 2028.

Company leaders made the announcement on Monday at Urban Outfitters’ Navy Yard campus, touting the retailer’s deep roots and continued momentum in Pennsylvania.

Governor Josh Shapiro was on hand to celebrate, saying, “Urban Outfitters was built from the ground up in Philadelphia more than five decades ago — and we are proud that this company is continuing to grow and create jobs all across our Commonwealth.”

As for the company’s existing presence in Bucks County, Nuuly already operates a distribution center in Levittown, which it opened in 2019. The subscription service has since taken off, surpassing 450,000 active subscribers this spring.

The new Bucks facility is designed to keep pace with that explosive growth and deliver a significant jobs boost to the region in the process.
