Doylestown Native Pink’s Stage Name Originates from More X-Rated Roots Than Many Fans Knew

Many fans of Doylestown-native singer Pink assume her name stems from her old hair color, but its origin is more X-rated than most realize.

Many fans of Doylestown-native singer Pink assume her stage name stems from the hair color she wore early in her career, but its origin is more X-rated than most realize, according to a staff report from the EMEA Tribune.

For her first album, the award-winning artist, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore-Hart, received double platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. Her major hits include Just Give Me a Reason, So What, Try, Lady Marmalade, and What About Us, among many others.

Pink came up with her stage name while watching Reservoir Dogs, and the meaning was extremely raunchy.

“My best friend had never seen a white girl’s vagina before so he asked me if I could see it, so I showed it to him and he said ‘It’s pink!’” said the singer. “Then my friends started calling me Mr. Pink.”

For those who have not seen the movie, the character played by Steve Buscemi is also named Mr. Pink.

Pink noted that not everybody is thrilled to discover the meaning behind her name.

“I’ve been receiving complaints for a very long time,” she said. “I’m OK with it.”
