Thanks to its artsy reputation and welcoming attitude, New Hope has become a destination spot that attracts both visitors and those who want to move to one of Pennsylvania’s most charming cities, writes Sandy Smith for the Philadelphia Magazine.
The town, which was once a ferry landing, got its name from the gristmill rebuilt by Benjamin Parry after the first one was destroyed in a 1790 fire. First-time visitors can get a feel for its history by visiting Parry’s circa-1784 house, which has now become a museum.
Main Street is always filled with activity thanks to the dense collection of eateries, bars, and clubs. The shops are filled with an eclectic variety of offerings, including African art at African Masks Plus and custom leather goods at Fred Eisen Leather & Art Knives.
And if you are looking to move to New Hope, there are a variety of housing options.
“You can find everything from new-construction homes that sell as high as $7 million to smaller, more affordable homes of around 1,600 square feet in the $500,000 range,” said agent Carol McCann, of RE/MAX Millennium.
