As it prioritizes investment in the construction and deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, PECO has launched a Public Benefit Charging Program.

The $1 million rebate program is the latest in EV charging infrastructure incentives that will allow the company to align with customer needs and support the expansion of electric transportation options throughout the region.

The Public Benefit Charging Program supports Level 2 and fast-charging installations and expands eligible uses to include charging stations for electric passenger buses, commuter shuttles, school buses, taxi cabs, and rideshare vehicles. This rebate is available for commercial customers, nonprofit organizations, and county, municipal, and regional government entities. The program will be available through 2024.

Program incentives are capped at 50 percent of the cost of equipment, installation, and make ready work for the project, not to exceed $60,000 per customer. Transit authorities installing fast chargers with a capacity of at least 250 kW per charging port are eligible to receive up to $500,000 per project site.

Supporting customers in their efforts to embrace cleaner energy solutions and reduce their carbon footprint is a key element of PECO’s Path to Clean, which includes a goal for PECO and the collective Exelon utilities to reduce operations-driven emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The company is achieving that in part by electrifying its own vehicle fleet through a combination of fully electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and vehicles with plug-in idle mitigation units. PECO currently operates approximately 150 electrified vehicles, an increase of 50 percent compared to last year.

This rebate is the latest in a suite of programs available to encourage transportation electrification, including rebates for EV owners and PECO’s online EV Toolkit, which provides information on charging options and locations, as well as a tool to calculate potential savings and emissions reductions.
