Residents from Pennsbury and Morrisville gathered earlier this week to discuss a proposed school district merger between the two communities, writes Tom Sofield for Levittown Now.

The meeting was held at Pennsbury High School in Falls Township; 125 people or so attended.

The school district merger had been discussed over the past year.

Talk became heated, owing to financial struggles within the Morrisville School District.

There are now three possibilities for how the merger could work:

  1. Pennsbury School District could merge with Morrisville, and the two would combine their student populations
  2. Morrisville parents pay Pennsbury tuition for students in grades 3–12
  3. Morrisville parents pay Pennsbury tuition for students grades 6–12.

Most of the speakers at the meeting were Pennsbury residents.

Howard Goldberg, a former school board member from Lower Makefield Township, noted that all three options should be looked at and that the board should move forward “if and only if it is in the best interest of Pennsbury.”
