After struggling against daunting political challenges for months, the abortion debate is providing Democrats with an opportunity to engage moderate women in swing townships such as Warrington, writes Katie Glueck for The New York Times.

For some, the issue is proving crucial when deciding who to vote for, especially knowing that access to abortion in the state will most likely be determined by the next governor and a Republican-controlled legislature.

Sophia Carroll, of Warrington, a 22-year-old registered Republican had mixed feelings due to her Catholic upbringing when she learned Roe vs. Wade was overturned.

However, she decided she would vote for Democrats this fall “just because of this issue” of protecting abortion rights.

“As someone who knows other women who have had to make the decision to choose, it’s a very personal and very intimate decision,” she said.

Still, the issue is not high enough on the priority list to change their vote for some.

“The economy is always going to be the biggest thing for me,” said Diane Jacobs, 57.

She plans to vote for Republicans in November.

“Just look at inflation,” she said.
