Record gas prices are not slowing down road travel in Pennsylvania, but drivers are finding other ways to save, according to a new AAA poll.

“There is no overstating the pent-up demand to travel in the wake of COVID,” says Jana Tidwell, spokesperson for AAA Mid-Atlantic. “While gas prices will discourage some, those who still want to go are simply cutting back elsewhere.”

The poll points to three main ways drivers are saving money.

Almost 65 percent of Pennsylvania drivers have adjusted their daily schedule due to gas prices. Of those, over 45 percent said they are consolidating or running fewer errands while over 53 percent are limiting their driving any way they can.

Additionally, just about half of Pennsylvania drivers commute to work. Of them, around 20 percent said they now often work from home and around ten percent carpool or ride share to work.

Finally, the majority of Pennsylvanians are adjusting their travel plans or travel budgets. About a third say they are taking fewer trips due to gas prices and nearly 15 percent are taking shorter trips. Meanwhile, about 20 percent are adjusting their travel budget for dining or lodging.
