Billy Crocker is introduced as Eastern's new head football coach.

Billy Crocker is Eastern University’s first-ever head football coach and he was mentored by Villanova University coach Andy Talley, writes Bruce Adams for Main Line Media News.

“I was with him [as an assistant coach] for almost 15 years, and he filled so many different roles for me – as a mentor, boss, father figure, and friend,” said Crocker.

Crocker was Villanova’s defensive line coach when the Wildcats won the FCS National Championship in 2012. He became the defensive coordinator in 2012 and in 2016 the Wildcats led the FCS in total defense.

Talley watched Crocker grow as a coach at Villanova, and calls him “one of the very best coaches I ever had at Villanova.”

He thinks Crocker will do well at Eastern, especially in recruiting.

“Being able to sell and recruit is critically important, and that’s what will hold Billy in good stead at Eastern because this is a recruiting job right out of the box.”

Crocker has a great personality and “he’s innately a very, very good person,” Talley said. When he recruits it comes from the heart.
