Pennsylvania's labor market was one of the determining factors WalletHub used in its assessment of our statewide road back to pre-pandemic life.

Pennsylvania continued to keep its place in the top half of states returning to their pre-pandemic lives, according to a new report by WalletHub.

To gauge the pace of national recoveries, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key dimensions:

  1. COVID-19 health
  2. Leisure and travel
  3. Economy and labor market

Those dimensions were then evaluated using 18 relevant metrics.

Pennsylvania ranked No. 21 overall, rising two places compared with July. The Keystone State came in highest for COVID health at No. 9. However, it ranked significantly lower in the economy and labor market at No. 37 and leisure and travel at No. 42.

In specific metrics, the state ranked highest in total weekly consumer spending compared with pre-COVID-19 levels, at fifth place.

It also placed highly for COVID-19 hospitalization rates and COVID-19 death rates, 10th and 13th place, respectively.

The state ranked No. 20 in its share of fully vaccinated population.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania ranked lowest in the number of weekly job postings compared with pre-COVID-19 levels, at No. 46.
