Perkiomen School is ready to start the new school year, following its motto of inspiring students to risk becoming their best.

The first day of school is fast approaching for boarding and day students on August 30, and the students and staff are excited for a great new year.

“The 2021-2022 academic year will be a new year where we return to the Perkiomen that we know and love, where we will seize opportunities to achieve much more than we ever imagined,” says Mark A. Devey, Head of School.

“We are not just planning for a theoretical back to school, but truly getting back to Perkiomen School — to the school and the experiences we value, to the hands-on lessons, to the mix of cultures and traditions, to making memories and trying new things. We have the room and latitude to make that possible and fully intend to do so,” Devey stated.

He says the spirit of an independent school is found in the ability to make decisions that best serve its unique population.

“However, we do not confuse independence with being cavalier, and we know the responsibility is even greater,” he said.

“Perkiomen effectively managed our school throughout the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are confident that the choices we made and the lessons we learned last year will contribute to a successful 2021-2022 school year,” Devey expressed.

The school community will wear masks indoors but will be able to remove masks when outside, in dormitories, and when with teammates during indoor active practice for sports like basketball and volleyball.

Both indoor and outdoor spaces will be used to build community through gatherings and events, in order to make strong connections during the first days of school.

He says Perkiomen School will continue to implement a layered approach to health and safety measures. “As vaccination is the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic, and with more than 95 percent of our eligible population vaccinated, we are ready and eager to return to a full school experience,” Devey explained.

“We know we are better together. Within the small, engaging classroom settings relationships are deepened,” he said.

“Our Advisory program is a safe place where we set expectations and build success, help students learn how to manage emotional stress, and examine the importance of empathy and gratitude,” Mark shared. “The structure of this built-in support network functions like a partner in parenting.”

“Perkiomen School is transformative by design — a space to learn, grow, and innovate,” Devy pointed out. “Our campus is both spacious and intimate, and serendipitous meetings create special moments that become lasting memories. These daily encounters change the relationship from student and teacher to family.”
