Nurses’ daily heroics — especially considering 16 months of above-and-beyond responsibilities related to the coronavirus outbreak — were celebrated in Bucks County throughout May’s National Nurses Month.

Bucks Local News reported on nearly 800 luminarias that lined the driveways of St. Mary’s Medical Center. Each paper bag was candlelit from inside, illuminating the name of one staff nurse.

The touching tribute also remembered the hospital’s nurses who had unfortunately succumbed to COVID-19.

Doylestown Hospital also marked the special month. Administrators bestowed treats and honorifics on the nursing staff, thanking them for service during a physically and emotionally grueling year.

Its official recognitions include a scholarship in memory of Eleanor Wilson, Doylestown Hospital’s former Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Wilson retired after 23 years of inspiring service to the healthcare organization.

Doylestown also bestowed its annual DAISY award. This international recognition highlight nurses who go above and beyond expectations. Winning nurses receive a special pin, a hand-carved statue, and access to various scholarships.
