Despite a large drop in tourism in the county last year due to the pandemic, Visit Bucks County is hoping to see significant improvements in 2021, writes Tom Sofield for the Levittown Now.

The pandemic has caused many of the planned events to be canceled and many destinations to be closed for weeks at a time, but with many venues adjusting to COVID-19 safety measures and vaccination efforts well on the way throughout the country, the officials are now feeling optimistic once again.

“Even with our declines in visitation, Bucks County fared much better than other destinations due to our location and travel product,” said Visit Bucks County President and COO Paul Bencivengo.

The adaptability of local businesses came to the forefront as, for example, restaurants quickly pivoted to new takeout formats and area museums and theaters added virtual experiences.

Frank Lyons, chairman of the board of directors for Visit Bucks County, said that many businesses are rolling out specials for visitors planning to come this year. Some new venues will also open, including a new conference and event space at Pearl S. Buck House.
